Jamie Isaac is a songwriter, producer and performer from South Easth London; leaving school alongside long-time collaborator and housemate Archy Marshall (aka King Krule), the classically trained vocalist and pianist gained notoriety through a string of EP releases, performances, remixes and features. Crafting a palate of hazy beats, jazzy piano and nocturnal soul, his critically celebrated debut album, Couch Baby, was a mini-masterpiece of lo-fi soul and melancholic lyricism. Drawing in collaborations coming from respected contemporaries such as Denzel Curry, Rejjie Snow, Allan Kingdom, Wiki and Sporting Life, the record was buoyed by word-of-mouth support to become the sleeper hit of 2016. Follow up (04:30) Idler, released in 2018, showed Jamie maturing as a songwriter. Recorded between London and LA, the record took on a more polished sound, developing from the meandering experimentation of Couch Baby into a more focused aesthetic that nodded to the timeless vocal jazz of Chet Baker and the cool bossanova of Gil Gilberto. The end result was another milestone that had the critics united in praise. Pitchfork called the album “gorgeous”, whilst The Guardian went as far as to dub Jamie “the heir to Sade”.

2019 saw Jamie Isaac head out to LA to write and record with fellow beatsmith, Nosaj Thing. The outcome was 3, an aptly-titled three-track EP that combines Jamie Isaac’s ability to create charmingly intimate vocals and entrancing melodies with Nosaj’s textured deep lo-fi production to create an upbeat groove, designed to get people up on their feet. Talking about his time in LA and spent with Nosaj Thing, Jamie Isaac has a new-found enthusiasm and excitement for the future, commenting “I feel reborn. I wanna be a different, happier healthier person in every aspect I guess. I’ve never shown people this side of me”.
