MIKE is a rapper from the Bronx, New York. Emerging from a new wave of underground hip-hop in the city, MIKE couples hazy, sample-heavy beats with raw and guttural bars full of personal vignettes, slice-of-life observation and frank home-truths about depression, being broke and growing up in NY. After a string of low-key releases including the acclaimed ‘May God Bless Your Hustle’, which brought much praise from the likes of Pitchfork, FADER and the New Yorker, MIKE’s ‘BY THE WATER’ simultaneously distinguishes him as a talented beatsmith whilst aligning him with some of the genres’ crate-digging greats – MF DOOM, Madlib and J Dilla.
